Hui Suo Lock

During the last wu shu training, our teacher in charge Mr. Chen Yang tried to persuade us to change the lock of our wu shu hui suo so that the grand seniors will not be able to enter the room without us present. This is proposed out of concerns regarding the security of the school as well as not to get into trouble with the school admin.
Upon the hearing this suggestion, I felt quit glad. This is because some of the belongings of wushu members were stolen during one of the previous trainings. I think that changing the lock would mean better security since someone have obvious cracked the code of our lock. However, on a second thought, maybe the lock should stay. In March, I tried out for Wu Shu. Almost instantly, I fell in love with the CCA. Not only because I have a fascination of Wu Shu ever since I started to read Martial Arts Novels, but mostly because of the homely feeling. In the past few months, we see many grand seniors coming back, not only during the investiture but also to train with us and cheer us on during the normal trainings. It is really very nice to see this and their presence really makes Wu Shu a whole lot warmer.
Changing the lock is like a subtle message to the seniors to tell them not to come back. The lock, I believe, must have been past down through many generations of Wu Shu. It is sort of a representation of everyone's presence and involvement in Hwa Chong WuShu. The password to the lock of Hui Suo, is in a sense a secret code that binds the different generations and current members of wushu together. Changing it is really like erasing away certain things about Wu Shu. I am sure those people who go back to their primary or secondary schools after a renovation would feel that some stuff about the school is gone. In the more severe cases one may even feel alienated to the school.
Besides, after graduation, wouldn't it be nice to know that in the Hwa Chong campus, there is always a place for you, that you know the place and can always have the access to it. It would feel as though a part of u still linger in the school. It is really would make the occasions of recalling the great times you had with your friends in wushu a little sweeter and less sorrow.
Maybe sooner or later we will have to change the lock, however, I hope we can hold on to it for as long as possible. The lock is a magical guardian of Wushu, changing it would be like shutting out the past of wushu, which would be a great loss.

Art House at Old Parliament 2004

Adiemus 2003 SYF
